David Justice, has always believed a lotion is best for tattoo aftercare. It is easily absorbed into the area so that it remains dry to the touch, yet emollient. For years he recommended Lubriderm, the most accessible lanolin-free lotion on the market.
Hydracare was developed by David Justice, with the aide of a licensed pharmacist. It didn't make sense that so many tattoo artists seemed to be recommending Lubriderm or A&D ointment. David took it upon himself to develop an all-natural lotion specifically made for tattoos.
Most aftercare products on the market are waxy or oily, containing various products, some natural, some not. Hydracare is composed of the highest quality of all-natural oils in a lanolin-free lotion base. Even liberal application doesn't leave the tattoo gooey or runny. Instead, Hydracare is absorbed into the area, where it can provide the greatest effect. Hydracare is about comfort throughout the healing process, while protecting the area from bacteria and dryness.

Tattoo Care Instructions
- Apply Hydracare, or Lubriderm Unscented, immediately after tattoo is completed (we take care of this step before you leave the shop).
- Wash thoroughly two to three times a day for the first 48 hours.
- Pat dry and apply Hydracare, or Lubriderm Unscented, two to three times each day as needed.
- DO NOT scratch or pick exfoliating skin.
- DO NOT swim while your tattoo is healing.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. DOES IT HURT?
Yes, there will be pain and discomfort during your tattoo. The intensity of the pain largely depends on the location of the tattoo and your own pain tolerance. Some people describe getting a tattoo as 'uncomfortable'. Others describe it as 'excruciating'. Our advice: Don't freak out. Pain is temporary.
2. IS IT SAFE?
Yes, it is safe. We maintain a sterile environment, using disposable needles and barriers. We take blood borne pathogens seriously. Your safety and comfort are of upmost importance to us. We wear gloves and our inks are industry standard. If you have any questions regarding our practices, please ask.
3. HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR MY TATTOO TO HEAL?
This varies from person to person. On average, it takes anywhere from 10 days to 3 weeks. Keeping your tattoo moisturized with a natural lotion is important as it will help in preventing scabbing and as a result, allow your tattoo to heal more quickly. If you do scab, do not pick the scabs.
4. DO YOU DO COVER-UPS?
Yes! David Justice specializes in cover-ups.
5. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
If the tattoo is smaller than half a page it will be priced at the square inch rate. The first square inch is our $80 minimum and then every square inch after that is at the rate of $25/square inch.
6. CAN I BRING MY OWN DESIGN?
Of course! We love collaborating with you.
7. I AM A MINOR. CAN I GET A TATTOO?
According to Texas law, no one under the age of 18 can get a tattoo unless certain requirements are met. The minor must have a tattoo present that is being covered up per the request of the parent, and the parent must be present during the procedure. At American Gypsy we do tattoo on minors if they meet these requirements, according 25 Texas Administrative Code, §229.406(c).
